Starting on Dec 6th in Salisbury, Md,  and ending on December 9th in Dover with a stop in far northern Hockessin there is a celebration of the Birthday of Annie Cannon. This event has been very poorly promoted but don’t let that stop you from attending at least one of the events.

Wesley College seems to have a bit of handle on events at their site. There is a link to buy tickets and sundries on the page but that link is erroneous and takes you to a pathetic test blog entry. Instead go here where the four day event unfolds.

The event features Dava Sobel, author of The Glass Universe, performing various roles – talk, panel, TV interview and so on with book signings along the way.

The book is worth buying for the story of Annie Cannon alone although it covers creation of the Harvard Plate Collection and the Henry Draper Catalog of astronomical spectra. Both are still in use today.
