Becoming an Outdoors-Woman
The Delaware Division of Fish & Wildlife hosts an annual Becoming an Outdoors-Woman event to engage adult women (ages 18 and above) in outdoor recreational activities such as fishing, hunting, camping, hiking, boating, etc. Our 2019 event will be held at Lums Pond State Park (at Area 4) as an overnight camping weekend on September 20-22.
This is an outreach event. Attendance is expected to be about 50 people – several telescopes maybe required.
Our Becoming an Outdoors-Woman event will be held at Lums Pond State Park at Area 4. I’ve attached a map of the park. Once you enter the park you’ll pass the fee booth (there most likely won’t be anyone there but if there is just tell them you’re with the BOW program), then you’ll pass the nature center on your left. After you pass the nature center the entrance to Area 4 will be on your right almost immediately. We’ll have a BOW sign to help direct folks into the Area 4 parking lot.
As part of this event, we try to offer as many diverse educational opportunities as possible and are currently interested in providing a stargazing program for our overnight participants on Friday, September 20th. Our evening program time slot is 8pm – 10pm (programs are usually 1 to 2 hours in length), and the area in which we’ll be staying has no electricity so we believe it will be an optimal location for viewing the night sky without nearby ambient light.
I’m emailing you to see if there might be anyone from your group who may be interested in providing a 1 to 2 hour stargazing program for us on Friday, September 20th. As a thank you for your support, Delmarva Stargazers would be added to our list of sponsors for the event (identified in signage and hand-outs) and we’d be happy to include any literature you’d like to pass out as part of our goodie bags for each participant. Also, if the instructor would like to arrive a little early, they would be most welcome to join us for dinner at 6pm. J
