Observing Notesfrom the Tuckahoe IrregularsPaul Gray, Don Surles and myself showed up to observe Saturday night. It looked good from the beginning seeing the comet Ikeya-Zang low in the North West. Not much to look at and no tail was visible. A very neat string of planets were seen. Venus, Mars, Saturn and Jupiter all in a straight line. A very neat sight. As the sky got darker, it got wetter. The sky was mush and no double stars could be split, there was a halo around the brighter stars and no faint galaxies were visible It was a bad night. Clear but very unsteady. So I gave up very early on. I think Paul and I both quit at the same time around 9:30 or 10:00. We both had faint fuzzies on our lists for the evening and none of them were visible. So that's it. I saw two objects all night. Let's hope the star party is better. See you there. Doug Norton |
