Observing Notesfrom the Tuckahoe IrregularsIt's 3am and I just got back home. What a night! One for the memory books. Mars was absolutely spectacular. It just amazes me how lucky we are to witness this. I mean it was just awesome. I had no bug spray but came up with a good way to keep the mosquitoes off. I wrapped a towel around my waist to keep them from biting through my jeans and wrapped a towel around my head. Very few bites. They kept at me all the way up until I left. I took very long looks at a few of the highlight objects tonight. Looking at them from the 40mm WF all the way down to the 9mm Nagler. M13 and M92 were the best I have ever seen them. It was definitely a double star night. With the thick and steady atmosphere it made the stars steady as they could be. Alpha Hercules was awesome. I took some digital photos of the moon and tried to get Mars but the mosquitoes were eating my fingers very badly. There were lots of owls hooting and a fox barking. A few frogs jumped on my equipment. And lots of deer, possum and foxes on the way home. It was a super night. Doug Norton |
