Observing Notesfrom the Tuckahoe IrregularsIt was another fine night at Tuckahoe. It started off very cool and dry. Mars rose before it got dark and the sky was as clear as I've seen it since Thanksgiving. M33 was naked eye and M13 and M92 were even better than my last report. They were just the best. I hunted down mostly globular clusters around Delphinus and Ophiuchus. NGC 6934 in Delphinus is a very nice cluster. I mostly just poked around the sky until Mars was high enough to see clearly. I made two sketches at two different times over the course of the evening. The 11mm Nagler eyepiece had the best views all evening at 182x. The detail across Mars' surface was incredible. It changed dramatically over the course of the evening. The dew was off and on all night. The Eastern Screech Owl and the Barred Owls were really being vocal most of the night as well. I finally packed it up and left at 2:30am. Doug Norton |
