Observing Notes

from the Tuckahoe Irregulars

Comet C2002 T7 LINEAR January 29, 2004... Jim Rosenstock
I stepped out into my suburban backyard, then hauled out the big binos and 8" dob for a *quick* look...10 minutes at a time is about what I can handle in weather like this...

The comet was quite easy to find, but seeing was marginal (plus the dob hadn't really cooled down enough during my brief evening "viewing window" for that part of the sky). The first- quarter moon was pretty near, too, so the sky was too bright to trace the tail(s) very far. Just a little bit of a fan-shaped fuzzy in my binos.

Looking forward to viewing it in moonless dark skies...perhaps it could be a few degrees warmer, too, if that's not asking too much...

Jim
