Photograph the Antares Launch against the Sun
November 11, 2017 @ 07:37 - 08:30
There is a unique opportunity for this launch due to its early morning timeline. within certain locations along the Eastern Shore the vehicle will appear to transit in front of the sun – potentially making for great photo opportunities.
Some of your members probably have the right equipment (solar scope, telescope with filters, etc) to be able to capture this photograph.
I wanted to pass this information along to see if anyone might be interested in trying for this once-in-a-(decade?) event. Unfortunately we cannot offer compensation, but we will publish, with appropriate credit, any pictures obtained.

This is certainly a great opportunity for any Stargazer to try their hand a getting some very special photographs of an Antares launch!
Here is an URL that visually describes the areas the shots can be taken from:
Google map of the areas to line up with the Sun & Rocket
The town of Saxis, VA is suggested a good place for the shoot.
If you are handy with Google Maps here is the map data as the KMZ file.
You will need the usual solar gear: solar scope or regular telescope with filters and a camera. This should not require too much set up time since the trajectory does not require polar alignment and the exposures should be short!
This is the flight announcement. Naturally you should be checking the flight feed to see when it lifts off, if at all.
